Produced by Charles Stepney and band member, Maurice White, the album was recorded at multiple studios in California including, Burbank Studios, Wally Heider Studio and Westlake Audio. Spirit rose to No. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Soul Albums charts. It has also been certified Double Platinum in the US by the RIAA.
