The American Jazz composer and pianist originally released his sixth studio album in October 1968, via Blue Note Records. Produced by Duke Pearson, the album was recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs. The album features Hancock's arrangements for an unusual front line of Jerry Dodgion on alto flute, Peter Phillips on bass trombone, and Thad Jones on flugelhorn.
