This is a 2017 reissue vinyl LP pressing of Pharaoh Sanders Quintet by Pharaoh Sanders. The American jazz saxophonist originally released his album in 1965 through Free Jazz Records. The album was recorded in New York City at the loft of audio engineer Jerry Newman on September 10, 1964. Pharaoh Sanders is known for his overblowing, harmonic, and multiphonic techniques on the saxophone, as well as his use of "sheets of sound", Sanders played a prominent role in the development of free jazz and spiritual jazz through his work as a member of John Coltrane's groups in the mid-1960s
